Mistborn Liveblog 37

Chapter 36

It's all spoilers today. This close to the end, it's hard for it to be otherwise. Enjoy

Let the twists begin.

Vin gets into Kedrik Shaw and meets the Lord Ruler, only this time he's old. She uses the Eleventh Metal, and sees visions of the Lord Ruler (perhaps as she later contemplates, the visions are of who the Lord Ruler could have been if his past were different). The next time she sees the Lord Ruler, he's young again with the oppressive emotional dampening. This all leads me to wonder if the younger Lord Ruler is actually the Deepness somehow personified (maybe through a Kandra), and the older Lord Ruler is the actual man who tried to defeat it and failed. In the journal, the hero talks about the depression he felt near the deepness and how nice it was to rise the mountain to the point he could no longer feel it.

The other interesting event was when the Inquisitor gave Vin a new metal to burn that removed all of her metal reserves. It's a convenient tool for the story, and certainly for the Inquistiors who hunt Mistings and Mistborn. But it begs the question: what's the pairing of that metal do?

We're getting so close to the end, that I'm not really feeling the urge to do much predicting of what will happen. Besides, I'm not really seeing clues toward the actual events. Sure, everything points to the older Lord Ruler somehow redeeming himself by taking down the younger, and Elend is poising himself to be the leader of the city after things settle. But the specifics of how Vin gets out of her predicament and how the Lord Ruler is taken down-- I have no idea.

See you tomorrow. Happy reading.
