Chapter 32
Getting closer and closer to the end of the story, I find it difficult to not just sit down and finish the book. Normally, as I near the end of a book, I'll devote an evening or two to finishing it. I think that's a pretty common occurrence among readers, and it really helps build the momentum toward the final climax. I'm a bit concerned that the ending won't be very big for me because of my reading schedule. I'm considering reading and scheduling chapter posts for one each day, but letting myself continue to read. That way, I'll keep to my posting schedule, but still be able to maintain cohesion for the ending. I'll see how it goes for the next few chapters.
On to the spoilers
With all the training that Vin has gone through for each metal, I'd thought she'd gotten through all the main metals. Evidently, there was one left-- tin. And so, she and Spook spent some time on that, though I wasn't left impressed by the exchange.
Clearly, the chapter hinges on Marsh's death. I didn't expect it, though Brandon leads into it gently enough that it doesn't come by surprise either. I really expected the Inquisitor that killed him to show up, but it didn't happen. The big question is whether or not Marsh told them anything before he died. He never struck me as the type to survive Inquisitor questions, so I'm guessing the plan is compromised-- but since Kelsier kept his other plan so secret, I'm not too worried about its progress.
I was really taken aback by the sudden shift to another character's view. After the bits with Elend, I had to stop and wonder if I'd met the character before and try to place him. As it turns out, he only lasted a short time so that Kelsier's attack on the Pits could be a surprise, but as the first shift to a temporary character, I again thought it was too late into the book to do that-- it jarred me out of the story. Of course, I understand what I can only assume was Brandon's purpose, and it did work, at least for that part.
More tomorrow. Happy reading.
