Mistborn Liveblog 36

Chapter 35

Welcome back. It's my final week with Mistborn. I've decided that after this week, I'm going to take a break from such frequent posts, after daily for nearly eight weeks, I'm a bit worn, and I need to devote more time to my work in progress. This has been a good experience for me, and I'll likely do it again for another book in the future. Of course, I'll probably change the way I approach it next time, perhaps less-frequent posts that focus on larger chunks of text, or something along those lines. But for now, let's just dive into the beginning of the end of this book.

On to the spoilers:
It appears that I was wrong about Kelsier-- everything in this chapter seems to point to him being truly dead. I'll have to see how it all plays out, but the idea of Kelsier creating a religious fervor based around himself and his death seems like a good move for the story. I don't know if I really like the note-leaving method, but whatever. At least we finally know Kelsier's secret plan.

The other big part of this chapter is finally leaning what Kandra are: evolved mistwraiths. How exactly one goes from the hideous creatures we met previously to something capable of reason and conversation, I have no idea, but having one take Kelsier's form and appear to groups of skaa to propel them toward revolution-- that's pretty cool.

Then there's Vin-- hopeless because of Kelsier's death and then spurred to action by the messages he left for her. She's going to see what is hidden in Kedrik Shaw. It's probably too early to analyze her complete character-growth arc-- certainly there is more to come in the remaining few chapters-- but I find her far more enjoyable as a character now than at the beginning. She's stopped worrying and complaining and started taking action. And that's part of what makes a main character interesting-- taking action. But change is also vital for a main character. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of her in these final chapters.

Oh, and it seems my earlier prediction that Vin would be the one to use the eleventh metal to defeat the Lord Ruler will happen now-- unless Kelsier really is alive somehow, but now I doubt that's the case.

More tomorrow. Happy reading

Jameson
