Chapter 9
I've come to the end of my second week. My Kindle shows about 30% finished (184 pages). It's a slow pace, sure, but one I can keep without too much trouble. I've endeavored to do recurring things before, but it's always been overly ambitious and something unsustainable. But this, while needing commitment, is proving far closer to what I can reasonably do.
On to the Spoilers:
I'm not really sure what to say about this chapter. It's more preparation for the eventual story-- it's the rise of the trainee to adequacy. It reminds me of the scenes in the movie Anastasia where they're traveling to Paris and training Anastasia in all the things she needs to know and do to pretend to be the lost princess-- particularly the recitations of noble houses and a fabricated history. The only thing missing from chapter 9 is a rousing chorus: "If I can learn to do it, you can learn to do it... There's nothing to it."
So far, my take on Mistborn is that the magical system is cool. The story so far feels pretty much like every movie of this genre I've seen. The Allomancy system certainly sets this book apart from everything else though. It's what keeps me reading-- well, that and the glowing review my family gave it. And I guess my commitment to live blogging. I think I may end up reading some this weekend, but I'm going to stick to the Monday through Friday schedule for publishing posts. They may just get written a bit early :)
Enjoy the weekend and happy reading!
