MIstborn Liveblog 19

Chapter 18

I'm having a bit of trouble picking a writing element from this chapter, but I have begun to think about something tangential. This week will end my fourth week of doing this Mistborn reading journal. There have been days I've been eager to get to it and days I felt I'd rather let it slide by. There are days I posted a bit early and days I've come close to letting the clock run out. But I'm still here.

That's more than I can say for my current work in progress. I've hit a pretty heavy wall and I'm spending more time analyzing how to scale it than actually putting my hand to the wall and lifting my body upward. There's a commitment to writing that I can't say I fully have yet. It's coming. But it's still fragile.

Like this blog, though, I just have to do it. Every day.

Mistborn spoilers below:

Vin's second ball, and her first since her injury didn't interest me much. Sure, there were two specific events that did grab my attention, but the dancing and teen-noble-play didn't grab me much. Of the two events, the latter was more impactful and less important-- that of the killing of the skaa boy at the end of the chapter. It was a nice reminder of the risks and threats, and the scene carried a heavy impact, but it likely has little to do with the story as a whole.

The other event that interested me dealt with Elend, specifically the anti-Lord Ruler book he had. I'd considered him to become an ally, but I'm starting to think he has his own plans that while similar to Kelsier and Vin's, will actually go against them. He's the perfect character for Vin to confide in just a little and then have everything go south, though he comes around at the end. I'd be a bit disheartened if it happened just like that, though.

See you tomorrow. Happy reading.
